Glaramara

Six vessels were built at Workington for the Lamport & Holt line. Their first vessel was the Christabel, built by James Alexander in 1845, and then five others were built by Charles Lamport himself, namely the Cathaya, Blencathra, Coniston, Glaramara and Chalgrove.

The Glaramara was a 475 ton barque built by Charles Lamport at Workington on the 23rd July1857.

From the Cumberland Pacquet and Ware's Whitehaven Advertiser, Tuesday, 28th July, 1857, page 8.

"On the 23rd instant was launched from the building yard of Mr.Lamport, at Workington, a beautiful barque called Glaramara, 476 tons register, and is intended for the East India trade."
She was sold to Shute & Co. of Liverpool in 1863 (see Source 1). In 1870 the Glaramara was owned in Greenock by Brymer & Co (see Source 2).

From "The Times", Saturday, 8th October, 1870, page 10 :

"STORM OFF NOVA SCOTIA.- The latest shipwreck reported is that of the Glaramara, a large ship from Greenock. All on board were lost."
