Official Number
?????

The Iranian was a four-masted steel barque built by Robert Williamson & Son at Workington in March 1895, a sistership to the Centesima, built two years earlier. She was the last of the large sailing vessels to be built at Workington. She was operated by the Williamsons and her first master was Capt.I.Webster. On the 3rd April 1900 the Iranian capsized after stranding at Inzu, Japan, towards the end of her passage from New York, bound for Yokohama with a cargo of kerosene.

From the Guardian newspaper, 10th April, 1900, page 9:

"YOKOHAMA, MONDAY : The British sailing ship Iranian, from New York for Yokohama, has been wrecked off the Japanese coast. Sixteen men were saved. The captain's boat was at first reported missing, but has since been announced as safe."
