The Joseph Sprott was a composite barque (iron frames) built at Harrington in December 1866 by Williamson & Son. She was owned by Sprott & Co. and was registered at Liverpool.

The vessels that followed the Joseph Sprott from the Williamson yard at Harrington were the Embleton, James Ewing and Michael Hutchinson.

The Joseph Sprott, Capt.Rice, left Manilla for Liverpool with a cargo of sugar on the 25th October 1870. Late in February, encountering a severe gale off the coast of Cork, she was driven onto rocks in Row Bay, near Galley Head, on the morning of Monday 20th February. All the crew were lost.
