The Lodore was a full-rigged ship built at Workington in 1856 and owned by Rathbone Brothers, of Liverpool.

The Liverpool Mercury, Monday, 17th March 1856;

" On Saturday last, a splendid-built ship, called the Lodore, was launched from the building yard of Charles Lamport, Esq., Workington, and was classed A1 at Lloyd's for 14 years. The length is 180 feet; breadth 32 feet; and depth of hold 21 feet. Her burthen per register is 901 tons old measurement, and she has been built expressly for Messrs.Rathbone Brothers and Co., of Liverpool."

The Lodore, Capt.Bowles, left Moulmein on the 3rd March 1883 with a cargo of tea and teak, bound for Europe. She was not seen again and was posted missing at Lloyd's on the 7th November. Having not been reported at either the Cape of Good Hope or St.Helena, she was assumed to have foundered in the Indian Ocean, with the loss of her crew of 25.
