The Cumberland Pacquet, Tuesday, 12th July 1853;
" A very handsome new clipper ship, 442 tons O.M., 428 tons
N.M. register, classed at Lloyd's A1, thirteen years, coppered and copper-fastened
throughout, was launched on Thursday last, from the building-yard of Mr.Richard
Williamson, at Harrington. The bow of the new vessel is adorned with a
well-executed figure of the Duke of Wellington, by Mr.Brooker, of Maryport,
and was named the Star of History, by Henry Musgrove, Esq., of Whitehaven.
The vessel has been built to sail fast, being intended for the East India
trade, and her workmanship and finish throughout reflects much credit on
the builder."
The Star of History was built by Richard Williamson at Harrington, and was launched on the 7th July 1853. It is likely that she was built on speculataion, as no owner was named in the report of her launch. When she was sold, her new owners registered the ship at Liverpool under the name Wellington. Contrary to the launch report, the vessel operated not to the East Indies but in the trade to South America. In 1867 the Wellington was reduced from ship to barque rig, and was sold to Spanish owners. She was re-registered at Bilbao under the name of Amigos.
