Launch report from the Belfast News-Letter, Saturday, 16th July, 1892;
" LAUNCH AT CARRICKFERGUS - A new steel three-masted schooner has been launched from the shipbuilding yard of Messrs.Paul Rodgers & Co., Carrickfergus. The vessel is of the following dimensions:- Length, 110 feet; breadth, 22 feet 4 inches; and depth of hold, 8 feet 7 inches, with a nett registered tonnage of 99 tons, and carrying capacity of 220 tons D.W. She has been built under special survey, and will class 100 A1 at Lloyd's. The ceremony of christening was performed by Mrs.Lynn, of Albany Cottage, Carrickfergus, who named the vessel Ford Fisher as she moved down the launching ways. Captain Watkinson was present on behalf of the owners, Messrs.James Fisher & Sons, of Barrow-in-Furness. The Ford Fisher is intended for the coasting trade, and will be under the command of Captain Jones."
Barrow shipowners James Fisher & Son bought twelve three-masted
schooners from the Carrickfergus shipyard of Paul Rodgers. The Ford Fisher was the last of the six steel schooners built by
Rodgers for the company. James Fisher &
Son ceased ordering sailing ships, and thereafter concentrated on introducing
steamers into their fleet. The Carrickfergus shipyard did later build a steel schooner for another Barrow owner, the Result.
From the Times newspaper, Weds., 12th February 1908, page 13;
" FOG IN THE CHANNEL - For nearly a week the English Channel has been enveloped in fog which has caused considerable delay to shipping. Several casualties have occurred......The three-masted Barrow schooner Ford Fisher, a sister ship of the Pool Fisher, which was sunk off Dungeness on Sunday with the loss of all hands, was in collision at the same spot yesterday. She was run into by a Cork steamer and was extensively damaged, but no lives were lost. "The Ford Fisher was sold by Fishers to a Swedish owner, for £1200, in July 1914. Fate not known.
